COMPETITION TIPS
- Your entries will save automatically as you go.
- Judges read the Design Concept Statements very carefully. Any details that are mentioned in the Design Statement need to be noted on the Floor Plan/Specifications. The story told in the Design Statement must match the story of the Plans and photographs.
- Use bullet points and short sentences in the Design Statement.
- Design Statements should present design challenges and solutions with clarity of thought and good flow.
- For kitchen and bathroom design categories, if NKBA Design Guidelines are not followed due to Client's wishes, it is a good idea to make a note of it either on the floor plan or in the caption under your image.
- Judges like to view floor plans to better understand the images you submit.
- A Before Plan is optional, but is recommended if your Design Statement outlines major improvements to the Plan.
- Use your 150-character space under the submitted photos to enhance the Design Concept Statement, or to clarify your design decisions.
- Try to have every Plan face the same direction (portrait or landscape) so the Judges do not need to rotate Plans. This is also true for photographs.
- Have photographs that show every special feature you list in your Design Statement.
- Make sure that you do not include the Facility Name, Designer, Firm or Project Name or Logo on ANY submitted material. Check photo filenames and submitted plans carefully!
- Include contributors. For instance, if an architect was involved, explain the architect's role on the Project Contributor Declarations Form.
- Submit professional or professional-quality photos of the completed project. Poor quality images will not be acceptable to the editors of any professional magazine.
- See complete rules and regulations in the downloadable files tab.
