CALIFORNIA PENINSULA CHAPTER ASID

2024 DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARDS COMPETITION

This design competition recognizes projects by members of the California Peninsula Chapter (CaPen) of ASID that represent excellence in interior design by successfully addressing client objectives, demonstrating creativity and skillfully problem solving in diverse design criteria categories.

We encourage all CaPen ASID members to enter for an opportunity to gain recognition for their exceptional work, to make their designs the benchmark of the industry, and to inspire a new generation of students and emerging professionals.

  • Professional, Allied, Associate, Student and Industry Partner members who are active and in good standing with the California Peninsula Chapter of ASID are eligible to participate.
  • Interior Design firms are eligible if the named principal designer on the project is an active member of our Chapter.  Any team member/collaborator who is not a CaPen ASID member cannot be named on the entry form and will not be considered for an award and publication.
  • Industry Partner members may name the creator as an additional entrant if they are employees but not a CaPen ASID member.  Industry Partners must have their principal place of business in California.

COMPETITION TIPS

  • Your entries will save automatically as you go.
  • Judges read the Design Statements very carefully.  Any details that are mentioned in the Design Statement need to be noted on the Floor Plan/Specifications.
  • Use bullet points and short sentences in the Design Statement.
  • Design Statements should present design challenges and solutions with clarity of thought and good flow.
  • For kitchen and bathroom design categories, if NKBA Design Guidelines are not followed due to Client's wishes, make a note of it on the floor plan or in the caption under your image.
  • A Before Floor Plan is optional, but is recommended if your Design Statement outlines major improvements to the Plan.
  • Use your 150-character space under each submitted photo to enhance the Design Statement, or to clarify your design decisions.
  • Try to have every Plan face the same direction (portrait or landscape) so the Judges do not need to rotate Plans.  This is also true for photographs.
  • Have photographs that show every special feature you list in your Design Statement.
  • Do not include the Facility Name, Designer, Firm or Project Name or Logo on ANY submitted material.  Check photo filenames and submitted plans carefully!
  • Include all significant contributors.  For instance, if an architect was involved, explain the architect's role on the Project Contributor Declarations Form.
  • Submit professional or professional-quality photos of the completed project.  Poor quality images will not be acceptable to the editors of any professional magazine.
  • See complete rules and regulations in the downloadable files tab.
